Plot: We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's case, by shouting out one word - SHAZAM. - this streetwise fourteen-year-old foster kid can turn into the grown-up superhero Shazam.*
WOW what a great movie! Like Aquaman good! This movie was not what I was expecting. I mean the trailer has been out for months. And I say trailer because you have only really seen one trailer over and over again for months now. I think last week I might've seen a different trailer that gave me hope that the movie was going to be good. But the movie blew the trailer out of the park! I've never enjoyed going to a superhero movie more. I don't know much about DC Comic or Marvel. Is there going to be another Justice League or another DC Comic really big movie like the upcoming Avengers Endgame? I'm don't really know the history/understand either series...or who belongs to which series...
First, Remember the TV Series Chuck from the early 2000s? Zachary Levi - who plays Shazam - is Chuck. Yes, he is annoying and it is partly one of the reasons why one of my friends didn't want to go with me to this movie. But he wasn't annoying the whole movie. At first, you thought it was a little over-the-top acting when he became a superhero and was discovering his superpowers. But he kept the fun and the jokes up throughout the entire movie which really made it that much better.
Secondly, I did watch the movie in the D-Box seats (you all know I love a good D-Box seat). Best decision ever! (I bet if I would've done D-Box seats for Aquaman, it would've gotten a 10 out of 10-star review.) This had to be the BEST D-Box seat experience I have ever had. It jolted and rocked a lot more than other movies I have seen in a D-Box seat. I physically came off the back of the seat a couple of times from how much it jolted me. I literally could not stop smiling the whole time. Bravo DC Comic...Bravo.
Thirdly, we have to talk about the evil villain. Apparently, I couldn't tell who was playing the evil villain in the trailer because I love that actor. Mark Strong - who plays Dr. Thaddeus Sivana - was in the Kingsman movies. And I remember this because he sang "Country Road" in the last Kingsman movie and I added this song to my playlist because of him singing it. I had no idea he was going to be in this movie. Great surprise!
Overall, this was a phenomenal movie. I left with a smile on my face. I even called my friend whom I normally go to movies with (and she passed on this one) to tell her how she missed out. AND I smiled all the way throughout that entire conversation. It was such a good movie. I would totally go back and see it again especially if the D-Box was an option. It just happened to be the best superhero movie I've seen this year (Yes - even better than Captain Marvel...sorry Marvel fans).
There was only one thing that kind of bothered me throughout the entire movie. I thought Shaq would be in this movie. Didn't he do a Shazam movie or TV show in the '90s? I mean does Shaq have that many TV commercials on his calendar that he can't make time for the movie called Shazam when he was in Shazam before?
I feel bad for everyone that I asked to go to this movie with because they really missed out on something that was incredible and I would totally, hands-down, watch it again.
