Aquaman is a story about how Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world.*
I know what you are thinking "How could Aquaman have a higher rating than Bohemian Rhapsody or On The Basis of Sex? You must have liked it because the guy has his shirt off the whole movie." WRONG. From the special effects to the humor, I generally enjoyed this entire movie.
Let's start with the special effects and CGI. The characters look as though they are truly underwater having conversations with one another all while their hair and clothes are moving like they are underwater. Not an easy task to accomplish. Not only was the special effects good underwater, but it was also consistent on land as well. For an entire movie to move seamlessly from land to water and back to land and back to water is a very hard job.
Okay - we can't talk about Aquaman and not talk about Jason Momoa's acting. I started following him on Instagram and YouTube a while back because I liked he was from Iowa and came back every once in a while to see family. From his YouTube videos, you get a vibe of his personality. I feel like he was able to bring that energy and quirks to his role of Arthur in Aquaman. There were times you could tell it was just him being him. I think I laughed out loud more than any other superhero movie and it was because of the personality he brought to the character.
You also have to commend his acting as he shared the screen with a lot of big names like Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, and Nicole Kidman. Honestly, when I heard Jason Momoa was going to be the star of Aquaman, I didn't even know who he was. I have since found on he was on Game of Thrones from friends and a few other movies/tv shows but hadn't personally seen him in anything. But now that I have, I will always add his movies to my list. (Yes - I thought he was that good.)
The movie flew by. The action kept the movie really going. The kids that played the child and teenage Arthur did a great job keeping the character consistent through the entire movie. (The baby could of done better ;)) I would have ranked the movie higher but it started getting predictable by the end of the movie. There is a surprise at the end that I will keep as a secret in case you want to watch the movie but overall it got a little predictable.
I would defiantly recommend the movie to anyone that loves a good superhero movie, action-packed film, or just want a good laugh. (Sidebar: I was having a horrible day before I saw this film. After seeing it, it made me forget about everything that happened that day and I walked out of the theater with a smile on my face. That is what I call a good movie.)
