Plot: A young elephant, whose oversized ears enable him to fly, helps save a struggling circus, but when the circus plans a new venture, Dumbo and his friends discover dark secrets beneath its shiny veneer.*
The cast did a great job. But the two stars of the movie were the kids that trained Dumbo. Both Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins did a fantastic job against their star-studded co-stars which included Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Alan Arkin, and Danny DeVito. The real surprise for me in this movie is that Tim Burton - the director - did not have his wife in the cast. Typically in all Tim Burton movies, his wife, Helena Bonham Carter, appears at least somewhere in the movie. I felt like that was his signature. I kept an eye out and didn't see her.
I do have to comment on all the reviews that came out on Dumbo right before the movie came out. People Magazine and other online sources were saying that this was Tim Burton's best movie yet. I have to disagree. I felt like Sweeney Todd was much better. Yes, the story of Dumbo is classic. The colors and costume design was fantastic. The movie had the magic of Disney in it. The cinematography was great. But I felt like there was something lacking in the movie. It was missing one thing that I still can't put my finger on.
Overall, I would recommend this movie. It would be a great movie that the whole family could enjoy.
