Good? Okay - Let's talk about On The Basis of Sex.

On the Basis of Sex is the true story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, her struggles for equal rights, and what she had to overcome in order to become a female U.S. Supreme Court Justice.* Much like Bohemian Rhapsody, On The Basis of Sex is a Biography - which means it's an account of someone's life written by someone else.

The movie begins with young Ruth walking up for her first day at Yale Law School. As the movie progresses, you begin to see the struggles that Ruth went through being one of nine female law students in her class. From professors to her peers, she is talked down too and treated differently because she is a woman. The movie continues with Ruth's husband, Martin Ginsburg (Armie Hammer), shows Ruth a tax case that is gender basis against a man (hold for gasp). This begins the plot of the whole movie.

Now I don't want to give too much away because I believe this is a great movie that all history teachers, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, best friends, and any other female open to learning how they got a lot of their rights need to see. In the end, Ruth goes on the build a case and wins in the Denver Supreme Court. Thus starting a chain of other cases to change legislative laws to be more equal to reflect the era.

Going into the movie (and after seeing R.B.G), I knew the movie was going to be one of inspiration and also guilt. Look at all the amazing things and hard work this one individual has done to change lives. Something like that is inspiring but also makes you take a look at your own life and say "What are you doing with your life that could help or change someone else's life?" Felicity Jones did a fantastic job filling the shoes of the great Ruth Bader Ginsberg as well.

Honestly, I probably would have given the movie a 6-star rating until the very end of the movie. Here comes a big spoiler alert so stop reading if you want to see the movie and be surprised.

The end of the movie is this epic cinematic shot of Felicity Jones walking up the steps to the Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C.. There are drone shots, there is a sweeping shot of her walking proudly up the Capital stairs, and every other angle you can imagine. Then the camera sweeps behind a pillar and the real Ruth Bader Ginsberg is the one finishing the walk on the other side. It was a moment that really makes a person want to stand up and give her a round of applause for all the work she has done for women and men over the past 40+ years.

You might be wondering "What didn't you like about the movie that made you give it a 7 star rating? If she is that AMAZING, what went wrong?" The movie did a great job at portraying Ruth Bader Ginsberg career and home life. But there wasn't the constant drive that makes you want to keep watching the movie. It was more of a documentary with actors instead of a Drama. I almost fell asleep at one point because there wasn't any fire to the movie. All in all - I would recommend this movie to a lot of my friends along with the R.B.G documentary that came out in 2018.
