Award season has officially started and like most people, I am putting in my predictions for who will win. I haven't written a review yet for my favorite movie in 2018 but you will quickly see which one that is based on my picks. As you look at the lineup of nominees, you can see what a big year we had in movies. I know - people say that every year but look at just the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture nominees for the 2019 SAG Awards.
Crazy Rich Asians was the first all Asian cast. Bohemian Rhapsody covered addiction, sexuality, and relationships. Black Panther was an all African American leading cast. Blackkklansman covered race. A Star Is Born covered addiction and suicide. Each movie had its struggles, triumphs, and passions. So yes, it was a big year in movies - especially given that a couple of years ago no one but white people were nominated at most of the award shows.
Now there is one movie from 2018 that I believe is missing from these awards shows. A Quiet Place. It was the most original movie that has been made in years! I will write a review about it soon so you know my true feelings but I want to go on the record of saying it should have been nominated at each show, including a contender for best picture of the year.
